Performance Reviews

Carnegie Recital Hall

“Kay Standifer if a young soprano with an excellent ear and a determination to reach inside the songs she sings and make her voice reflect their content.  Miss Standifer's voice was strong and accurate."

Bernard Holland, THE NEW YORK TIMES

The Magic Flute

“Kay Standifer was superb as the malicious Queen of the Night.  She nearly stole the show with her absolutely marvelous voice.”

Richard Ryan, Staten Island Register

Waukegan Symphony Orchestra

“Kay Standifer took on the task of performing extremely difficult and exacting arias.  The performance was stellar.  Standifer, a coloratura soprano with a brilliant voice, exhibited that she can not only execute difficult arias, but has done so commanding the audience’s attention by her sensitive and dramatic interpretation.”

Joan Kusher, THE NEWS-SUN

The Impresario

Kay Standifer is in top form demonstrating a range of vocal colors in her basically fiery soprano which would have made the sensitive but witty Mozart glow with pride...a glory of musical wit, energy, and theatrical fireworks.”

Edwin Roberts, STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE

Miss Havisham’s Wedding Night

She sang with exhilarating precision, moved with as much presence as the cramped set allowed, and... spoke her words clearly enough to shame other sopranos with ten times her reputation; She has everything an opera singer needs...”

Gregory Sandow, THE VILLAGE VOICE

North-South Consonance Concert

“It should be noted that Ms. Standifer could probably sing just one note ‘ad infinitum’ and still be terrific.  She was also a standout in Schubert’s ‘Shepherd on the Rock’ for voice, clarinet, and piano, which closed the program.”

Eileen Siegel, STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE

Staten Island Symphony

Although Ms. Standifer started as a coloratura years ago, it was apparent from Saturday’s performance that her voice is getting ever richer and lower, bordering on mezzo-soprano...Nevertheless, she tossed off beautifully controlled trills and runs, and the quality in her newly acquired lower range was sumptuous.
